A White Wedding

For a bridal bouquet that will stand the test of time, choose all white flowers. It's a timeless and classic look that will never go out of style, just think the little black dress of wedding flowers.

Once a bride has settled on a white bouquet, there are still decisions to be made. There are many varieties of white flowers that can be used to achieve different looks. White mini calla lilies create a very streamlined, modern bouquet while white lilac adds a touch of vintage charm with its lace texture. Any variety of white orchid blooms such as cymbidium orchids, dendrobium orchids, or phalaenopsis are good, strong choices. Orchids are durable, plus phalaenopsis are beautiful in a cascading style bouquet. White hydrangeas are so lush and full, which makes them a great "base" floral for bouquets.

With an all white rose bouquet, or an all white lily of the valley bouquet, brides can go monochromatic and mono botanical. Using only lily of the valley can be expensive, but also stunning. It is more typical to use other florals in combination with lily of the valley. There are many varieties of roses to choose from for a white rose bouquet. Some varieties to consider are Tibet, Polo, Vendella, Polar Star, Escimo and Ecuadorian.

The classic white blooms we see when we picture a white bridal bouquet are stephanotis, gardenias and white peonies. Stephanotis are small, delicate blooms often adorned with a pearl, or rhinestone center. They smell delicious and are also an excellent choice for the boutonniere. Gardenias also have a wonderful scent and come in "mini" blooms, or traditional size. It is important to keep in mind that gardenias bruise easily, so have your florist provide two if you decide to use them in your groom's boutonniere. White peonies are always a bridal favorite, but if you must have them plan your big day around when they're in season!
