VARNA HISTORY

Introduced in 1989, VARNA was established by platinum-smith and jewelry designer, Garo Chividjian. During his early years in Bulgaria, Garo perfected his craft of meticulous hand made fine jewels. Bringing his devotion to the United States, Garo's unmatched style became an immediate sensation, influencing the popularity of modern vintage jewelry and simultaneously being one of the first jewelers to hand fabricate in platinum.

DESIGNER BIO

Garo Chividjian is a Jeweler. He is a craftsman of the utmost standards and quality. At the age of 21 he began working for the one and only jewelry manufacturer in his hometown of Varna. Working for the state run company, Garo developed unmatched skills for his craft and an understanding of balance and beauty. Garo's freedom to create and express himself artistically, however, was hindered by the then Communist regime. In 1980, he immigrated to the USA and was almost immediately regarded as one of the top jewelry makers in Los Angeles. He then started his own company fulfilling custom jewelry orders and concentrating on hand fabrication. A natural-born adventurer, Garo loves to pursue big game tracking and deep-sea fishing in exotic locations. He also spends his free time enjoying art and classic literature.

OUR CRAFT

Artistry comes alive, as no two Varna Originals are exactly alike. Whether contemporary or vintage in style, Varna Originals capture the essence of the past and are designed as an everlasting treasure. Making jewelry by hand is like creating sculpture – a unique work of art that will be visible by all to admire and awe. Each piece takes a tremendous amount of time and skill and it becomes a representation of the artist's talents and abilities. That is why no two Varna pieces are identical! Because of the amount of work each piece of jewelry requires and the nature of the work, a limited number of Varna designs are created each year. All Varna jewelry is completely hand fabricated by experienced craftsmen in our Los Angeles studio and can be found in fine jewelry stores across the country.
