While preparing for their wedding days, the majority of brides spend a lot of time focusing on is their overall wedding look. Shopping for a wedding dress has become an event in and of itself, with friends and family of the bride joining her and hoping she’ll “say yes” while they are present. Once the dress is selected, it’s time to decide on a veil or other hair accessories, as well as jewelry. Finally, brides will choose their wedding shoes.

There are a lot of different factors that go into selecting what style of shoes will be on your feet for the big day: how they match the dress, the venue, and comfort level. Despite the vast majority of wedding gowns being floor-length, most brides choose to wear high heels on their wedding day. While many women are heel devotees who aspire to match Carrie Bradshaw’s collection (and more power to you, if that’s the case!), others still are just hoping not to fall down in front of all their guests – and clumsiness isn’t even the only reason to forgo heels on the big day.

If you’re getting married on the beach, shoes in general are not particularly practical, but pumps definitely are not! If going barefoot isn’t your thing and you want another choice besides flip-flops (we don’t blame you), consider a sparkly or metallic sandal for your stroll down the aisle. Any sand that dares enter your footwear is just as easily shaken out once you are off the beach.

Dancing at the reception is often the highlight of any wedding, and dancing in heels is so difficult for some that there are specific classes on it! Plus, you’d hate to find out that you didn’t spend enough time breaking in your new shoes and find yourself spending your honeymoon nursing a gigantic blister. For the most part, no one will even notice your wedding shoes, but a glittery pair of ballet flats is still sure to impress.

This isn’t to suggest that brides who choose five-inch stiletto heels are making a mistake! Weddings are personal, and every bride knows what is best for her. It’s just also important to remember not to feel beholden to a certain style that isn’t right for you. To see the wedding shoes real brides wore on their big days, visit our photo galleries!
