A Sweet & Simple Wedding in a New Hampshire Forest

“Picking the ceremony site was easy. Set on a hill, my childhood home gave way to a forested valley with a creek where my sisters and I had played about all my life. In one spot, my father had built a bridge and when the sun filtered through the tree canopy to the earth floor, one would think they walked into a fairytale. My mother is a gardener, so the house was already adorned with beautiful gardens and she was willing to contribute wherever we needed. I envisioned all white flowers, which, at the beginning, my veteran-gardener-mother was a little hesitant about, but she grew to love the idea as she learned and explored different species offered in white.” 

When the day finally arrived, bridesmaids floated down the forest aisle in emerald ensembles and Sarah followed closely behind as a vision in fitted gown with an illusion neckline and a skirt lined with horsehair from her grandmother’s own wedding dress. After saying their “I dos,” friends and family travelled to a nearby barn to continue the celebration.

“For the reception décor, I envisioned full tables dense with flowers and trinkets in a barn hall glowing with light. My mother’s lovely flowers were placed about in an assortment of vintage milk bottles and vases. My father sliced Birch saplings to add to the composition of the many clear jars with white candles. Each table had its own vintage salt and peppershaker and a mix of unique plates. My dad also cut table markers from cedar saplings sourced from my childhood summer home. Above it all, a web of twinkle lights. We provided a classic summer meal, sourced locally and even from the farm itself. We served the farms IPA as our signature beer, ‘I Do Brew’ and mixed up blueberry lemonade as the ‘Happy Couple Cocktail.’”

“The day truly came together perfectly. We were humbled and overwhelmed with the community’s contribution to our unforgettable wedding day. Jared’s cousins were floored because they would’ve never pegged him to have such a wedding. Honestly, comments like this made all the hard work worth it. We are so glad we kept in mind what our friends and family would like to see and do while planning the day, because heck, they deserved a party after all of their hard work, too. And if it hadn’t been for this small town, this community, our family, and that first job at the grocery store, I would've never found my Prince Charming and had this fairytale come true.”
