Even if you’re not a Broadway aficionado, there’s a good chance you’ve at least heard of Hamilton, the rap musical inspired by the founding fathers that has taken the world by storm and nearly swept the 2016 Tony Awards. Among the show’s millions of fans are Mariel and Ivan, who were married earlier this year. While giving his toast at the reception, the groom mentioned that they are big fans, and led his bride to a seat at the dance floor. With the help of his friends and family, they shocked and delighted Mariel with performances inspired by the songs “The Story of Tonight (Reprise)” and “Satisfied” with personalized lyrics.

It’s not clear if this is what gave Ivan the idea, but coincidentally enough, Lin-Manuel Miranda – who wrote and starred in Hamilton – had a similar surprise at his wedding to Vanessa Nadal in 2010. He and his father-in-law, later joined by Lin-Manuel’s dad and the entire bridal party, performed “To Life” from Fiddler on the Roof. In the video, you can even see Christopher Jackson (who played George Washington in Hamilton) and Tommy Kail (who directed the musical) among the groomsmen, as they also worked on Lin-Manuel’s first Broadway musical In The Heights
