Set against the cinematic backdrop of Taormina, Sicily, the wedding of a Chicago-based litigation attorney Samantha Gigac and her CFO husband Eric McNulty unfolded as a multi-day celebration of love, culture, and glamour.

The couple’s story began fittingly on St. Patrick’s Day in Chicago – a city known for its legendary celebrations – where a chance meeting turned into something far more enduring. “We met at a St. Patrick’s Day party and ended up spending 13 hours together – every moment felt like we had known each other forever,” the bride shares.

From that day on, they were inseparable. When it came time for Eric to propose, a trail of rose petals led to their two huskies, bandanas tied neatly around their necks, holding signs that asked whether she would marry their dad. The answer, of course, was yes.

They spent the next two years planning their nuptials and searching for the perfect destination-wedding location. “We traveled throughout Italy and Spain the year after our engagement looking for the perfect combination of history, culture, cuisine, and vibrant atmosphere,” the bride explains.

With a shared passion for travel, history, and exceptional cuisine, they explored venues throughout Europe before ultimately finding the setting that captured everything they envisioned in Taormina. “Among the many venues we explored, Grand Hotel Timeo was one of the final stops, and it far surpassed all others in both charm and excellence.”

Before the wedding day itself, guests were welcomed to Sicily with a series of thoughtfully planned gatherings. The weekend began with a relaxed dinner at La Tavernetta, followed by a lively rooftop after-party, where friends and family gathered to enjoy the local cuisine and take in the charm of the historic seaside town.

The following evening replaced the traditional rehearsal dinner with a James Bond-themed soirée at Capo Taormina’s private cave beach. Security guards issued guests custom American and Italian “passports” complete with spy identities, while blackjack and roulette tables, dancers, and a Frank Sinatratribute performance by John Vincent set the tone. Hidden away on the secret beach, the night felt like a scene straight out of a 007 film.

Though the prior celebrations were incredible, the wedding day was nothing short of extraordinary. The evening began with a ceremony site perched dramatically on a cliff overlooking the Ionian Sea that featured breathtaking floral installations and a mirrored aisle reflecting the Sicilian sky. A string quartet accompanied the processional, culminating in the bride’s entrance to a rendition of “Still D.R.E.” – a modern, unexpected moment that perfectly captured the couple’s style. The couple also personalized the experience by writing their own vows, which was an emotional moment following the bride’s walk down the aisle, which she describes as the most memorable part of the entire day.

Following the ceremony, guests transitioned into an elevated cocktail hour, featuring a curated menu of specialty cocktails and an espresso-martini tower in place of traditional champagne. Guests then descended to the terrace for dinner, where John Vincent – their Chicago-based Frank Sinatra performer introduced at the prior weekend events – returned alongside a pianist to perform throughout the evening. In lieu of traditional escort cards, guests discovered miniature bottles of limoncello marking their place settings as a nod to the famed liqueur of Southern Italy.

As the couple cut into their elegant multi-tier wedding cake after dinner, fireworks erupted, illuminating the sea below and marking one of the weekend’s most unforgettable moments. To continue the festivities indoors, the energy shifted into full celebration mode. A DJ, saxophonist, and bongo player brought guests to the dance floor, keeping the party alive well into the early hours, and a dedicated dessert room kept guests satiated throughout the party, along with late-night bites.

The wedding weekend concluded the following day with a relaxed beach party at Belmond Villa Sant’Andrea, the sister property to their venue. Friends and family spent the afternoon enjoying the sun, sea, and one another’s company for an idyllic ending to a destination wedding filled with unforgettable moments, including a double rainbow stretching across the sky – a fitting and magical finale to a wedding defined by intention, joy, and unforgettable experiences.
