Modern, ethereal, and regal were the guiding principles for the “Modern Love Story” styled shoot Scott and Cara Nava of Carasco Photography envisioned. The opulent setting provided the superb modern component. Originally an office building, the iconic structure that is now The Langham, Chicago, was the last of its kind designed by architecture luminary, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.

“We played off of the airy, contemporary flair of the luxury hotel. Although the space is very modern with floor-to-ceiling windows and beautiful mosaic mirrors, we also wanted to pay homage to the first Langham hotel in London and pair rich traditional elements for a European flair,” explains Scott.

Two model brides were ethereal against prismatic mirrors and chic furnishings. The first wore an exquisite Chantilly lace dress with an ornate pearl design on the bodice and architectural seaming by Ines di Santo. The second donned a heavenly ball gown featuring a flurry of tulle with a crystal-embellished off-white sash. Accessorizing minimally, the brides wore a sparkling bracelet and dangle earrings, respectively. A groom in a sophisticated black tuxedo and bow tie completed the picture.

The regal tablescapes tied the theme together. A dazzling dose of gold accented a guest table with luxurious gilded linens, chargers, stemware, chairs, and their decorative sleeves. Ivory modern Louis chairs were striking at each end. A duo of tall vases with a hint of blush showcased arrangements that included roses, hydrangeas, and tulips in vanilla, magenta, and lavender tones were complemented by similar smaller bouquets in mercury glass urns. Fronted by a cluster of floral designs in the same pattern and palette, the sweetheart table was set apart with a sequined teal tablecloth. As a finishing touch, all place settings were topped with their own petite collection of pink roses.

Ending on a sweet note, a five-layer cake was adorned with rhinestone-studded sugar flowers and crystal bands. Giving a tip of the hat to the traditional English tea service, delectable petit fours were presented as additional treats.

“We wanted to create a dreamy wedding story of fashion, romance, and modern architecture” agree Scott and Cara. Clearly, they succeeded splendidly. If a celebration with contemporary or gilt elements strikes your fancy, you’ll find a wealth of inspiration on our weddings page.
