When Sydney Frank and Samuel Miller first connected on Hinge, both happened to be swiping while watching the Eagles game. This was an unlikely move for these two devoted fans who would normally drop everything to make sure they were locked in for game time. What followed felt almost serendipitous. “We very quickly realized that we have been crossing paths our entire life,” Sydney shares, noting they had spent more than 15 summers living just a block apart down the shore, attended rival high schools, and even discovering a photo of themselves together in seventh grade.
Their first date at a local brewery only confirmed the connection. Though they initially played it off as a shock, both Sydney and Sam knew their parents were already friends. The date felt effortless from the start, with organic conversation constantly interrupted by laughter and the beginnings of many future inside jokes.
After nearly two years of dating, Sam decided that it was time to take the next step of their journey together. What began as a “family dinner” transformed into a romantic surprise. Set down the shore, a place they both considered their oasis, Sam proposed at sunset, surrounded by champagne, flowers, and their closest loved ones.
The couple wed in Philadelphia – a city deeply rooted in both of their lives. “Philly is home” Sam explains. “We both grew up in the area, some of our favorite memories were made here and it is where we fell in love. There is no better place to start our next chapter together.” With 235 guests in attendance, the celebration took place in the heart of the city at the Crystal Tea Room in the historic Wanamaker Building.
The ceremony and reception were rooted in tradition as the couple honored their Jewish heritage and were married under a lush chuppah. They incorporated traditional rituals and songs to celebrate not just their union, but also the history and values that are important to them. It also provided an opportunity to share these customs with guests who may have been unfamiliar, helping create a deeper, more inclusive experience for everyone in attendance.
Design played a central role in bringing the couple’s vision to life. “We wanted to feel like we were in a garden, colorful and lush,” Sydney describes. Guests entered a ceremony space lined with floating blooms leading to a greenery-filled chuppah adorned with florals in soft pinks, whites, and purples. Bridesmaids wore a spectrum of hues to continue the theme.
“We wanted to feel like we were in a garden, colorful and lush.”
The aesthetic carried seamlessly into the reception, as guests were welcomed with a butterfly-inspired seating chart symbolizing transformation and new beginnings, before entering the ballroom transformed with florals. Blending soft pastels with bold jewel tones, the floral design highlighted pink hydrangeas, garden roses, delphinium, lisianthus, and cascading greenery to create a layered, textural look. The ballroom was met with both timeless elegance and modern vibrancy.
The evening’s culinary experience was equally abundant. Guests enjoyed a cocktail hour featuring a variety of stations – from filet carving and seafood to Italian and Southwest specialties – along with passed hors d’oeuvres. Dinner followed, and for dessert, guests were invited into a dedicated room showcasing a Viennese dessert table and ice cream bar. “We had a dessert room – unfortunately we didn’t get a chance to see it because we were too busy dancing, but apparently it was a huge hit!” Sam shares.
Personal touches throughout the celebration reflected the couple’s shared interests and personalities. In a playful nod to their sports fandom, the couple had also promised that if the Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl, they would include a custom ice sculpture at their wedding. Thus, an ice sculpture of the Lombardi Trophy, engraved with the Super Bowl LIX score, made its debut at the nuptials, much to the mother of the bride's chagrin.
Music also played a defining role in the evening. “One of the most important choices for us was our band,” Sydney explains. “We both felt that the flow and energy of the night stemmed from the music.” After attending multiple showcases together, they selected a group they loved, ensuring the dance floor stayed full all night long.
Despite the scale and detail of the celebration, the couple remained grounded in what mattered most: being present together. Looking back, there is nothing they would change: “The day was perfect!”
