Though Breezi Holt and Khaleel Jenkins met during their very first class together at Cal Poly – where Breezi was a Division I basketball player and Khaleel played football – it wasn’t until October that their story truly began. “Khaleel came up to me at a football party and said, ‘I will marry you one day,’” the bride recalls. Years later, that declaration became reality.
On New Year’s Eve 2022, the couple arrived at a luxury resort in Laguna Beach under the guise of meeting Breezi’s family for a drink. “Khaleel walked me down in the rain to a lookout and got down on one knee and asked me to marry him,” she shares. “My family then ran out to celebrate as they were hiding in a room in the hotel… It was the most magical night and could not have been more perfect.”
As they began to envision their wedding day, the couple turned to Charley King of Bluebell Events to bring their vision to life. “She was absolutely amazing, and we cannot recommend her enough,” affirms Breezi.
The couple chose a serene venue in Malibu that provided a romantic setting and easy access for their families traveling from Reno and San Diego. “The second you step foot on property, it feels like you are in an Italian oasis… [it] is naturally so incredibly beautiful, we truly did not need to add a ton of florals or décor,” the bride describes.
“[Charley King of Bluebell Events] was absolutely amazing, and we cannot recommend her enough.”
Though many brides opt for whites and soft neutrals, Breezi and Khaleel chose a contrasting color palette. “We wanted it to feel dark and moody… very different from the traditional white and airy look most brides go for,” she notes.
With black as the central hue, the event design was enriched with white florals, dramatic greenery, and abundant candlelight. “We also incorporated disco balls everywhere,” says Breezi, describing how the fun embellishments directed guests to their seats, sparkled on tables, and shimmered above the dance floor and dining area.
Florals played a central role in setting the tone for the romantic nuptials, with “roses and tons of greenery with candles sprinkled within,” the bride shares of the lush centerpieces arranged on modern white tables.
To add a personal touch and ensure each guest felt appreciated, a handwritten note was placed at every guest’s seat. “That was the number-one compliment we got from our entire wedding,” she adds. “We were so thankful each and every person made such a big effort to support us on our day, so we really wanted to thank them personally.”
After a seated dinner beneath twinkling lights, the energy shifted into full celebration mode. “We surprised my mom and our guests with a saxophone player, violinist, and drummer that came out during our reception and played in conjunction with our DJ,” Breezi explains. “After dinner when the music started, we wanted it to feel like club vibes, which was 100% what it felt like in the moment with the disco balls and lights.”
The festivities culminating in a bus ride to the after-party where the couple and their closest friends belted out their favorite songs – a spontaneous and joy-filled moment Breezi and Khaleel will never forget.
Reflecting on the most magical day, the bride wouldn’t change a thing. “Literally I would not change a single thing other than maybe bring my fan up at the altar because I was so hot,” she laughs. Her planning advice to other couples is both practical and heartfelt: “Don’t get worked up over small things and enjoy the planning… It is supposed to be fun! And get a great wedding planner… Charley was worth every penny.”
