The Dallas wedding of Morgan Nussbaum and Austin Azurdia was never going to be ordinary; it was always destined to be deeply personal, detail-driven, and thoughtfully executed from start to finish. High-school acquaintances turned lifelong partners, Morgan and Austin first met in Plano, Texas, where Austin earned the nickname “the foreign exchange student” after moving from Washington State at 15 to play hockey. Though they dated other people throughout high school and eventually attended college in different parts of the world, there was always a quiet pull between them.
Years later, their connection resurfaced the very day Austin moved back to Plano. After unpacking boxes and initially opting for a quiet night in, he changed course when he heard Morgan would be out that evening. What followed was a reunion that quickly became something permanent, and the rest, as they say, was history.
Austin proposed during a weekend getaway with close friends in Riviera Maya, Mexico. Though Morgan suspected a proposal might happen at some point during the trip, Austin surprised her by asking her to marry him on the very first night, barefoot on the beach before dinner. Caught completely off guard – and wearing what she jokingly calls her least-favorite outfit – Morgan was stunned in the best possible way. The moment, she says, was the shock of a lifetime and the happiest feeling she’d ever experienced.
As the owner of MO&CO Custom Events, Morgan approached wedding planning with a clear creative vision and an unwavering attention to detail. While she doesn’t specialize in weddings professionally, planning her own allowed her to design an event that felt unmistakably her: intentional, layered, and cohesive from beginning to end.
Beginning with dried lavender tucked into save-the-dates and lattice-designed invitations, every element was meant to serve a purpose and tell a story. To support the coordination of the day itself, Morgan brought on Haylie Paige Events (see Haylie's own wedding: A Wedding Planner's Colorful "Texas Black Tie" Ranch Wedding!), whose expertise proved invaluable in the months leading up to the celebration.
The couple chose to marry in Dallas, Texas, so they could be surrounded by the people – and animals – they love most, including both sets of grandparents and their two golden retrievers, Emma and Beasley. "It was so special to have everyone we love so much there, and it will be a day we will cherish forever!" the bride affirms. The Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek offered everything they were looking for in a wedding venue: privacy, architectural beauty, and a transportive atmosphere that felt worlds away from the city.
"It was so special to have everyone we love so much there, and it will be a day we will cherish forever!"
Morgan and Austin's 200 guests gathered for a 5PM ceremony beneath a floral-filled arch inspired by Morgan’s love of LoveShackFancy with a romantic English- and French-garden aesthetic brought to life with fresh roses, tulips, garden florals, and potted herbs including lavender, mint, and rosemary. The goal was not only to create the look of a garden, but the scent of one as well. The florals were intentionally loose, natural, and overgrown, transforming the space into a dreamy outdoor escape.
The pair's two dogs stole the show as they walked down the aisle, immediately setting the tone for a celebration that was heartfelt, fun, and unmistakably personal. The ceremony itself was intentionally nontraditional and deeply inclusive. With an interfaith rabbi officiating, the focus centered on Morgan and Austin’s story rather than religious structure. Jewish traditions meaningful to Morgan’s family were incorporated, including the signing of a ketubah, the breaking of the glass, and a joyful hora during the reception.
Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktails and passed bites poolside while their wedding team flipped the ceremony space into the reception in under an hour – an ambitious logistical feat rarely executed at the venue. The reception featured custom bistro-style food stations serving the couple’s favorite dishes, including chicken fried rice in branded to-go boxes with custom chopsticks, mini lobster rolls with personalized toothpick flags, short rib gnocchi, and Mediterranean kabobs.
As the elegant evening unfolded, the celebration only grew more energetic. After dancing under the stars, guests were surprised with a dramatic send-off that revealed a branded marching drum line, guiding everyone through the hotel and into the after-party: “Club Azurdia.” Complete with custom trucker hats, light-up chain necklaces, confetti, dancers, and bottle-service-style signage, the late-night club experience was the perfect finale to a wedding that never stopped evolving.
Reflecting on the special day, one of Morgan’s most cherished moments came as she walked down the aisle, finally seeing both Austin’s reaction and her vision fully realized. Having resisted the urge to peek at the décor throughout the day, the reveal felt even more emotional. Seeing loved ones gathered from around the world and watching the ceremony aesthetic unfold exactly as imagined made the moment unforgettable.
Planned with precision, creativity, and heart, Morgan and Austin’s wedding was not just a celebration, but a carefully curated reflection of who they are – proof that when every detail has purpose, the final result is nothing short of unforgettable.
