When Allison Piot and Michael Huber met in first grade at Christ the King Catholic School in Dallas, they never could have imagined they’d one day exchange vows in the very same church. Best friends through childhood and beyond, Michael realized Allison was The One during their college years. He proposed in front of their former school, and 14 months later, they returned to the sanctuary where their story began to be joined in holy matrimony.
With the church’s striking architecture requiring little adornment, the bride’s voluminous bouquet of orchids, along with her 17 bridesmaids in lavender gowns carrying all-white bouquets, offered the first glimpse into the design palette. Allison walked down the aisle in a timeless strapless gown and veil – a moment that left a lasting impression on her groom. “I was so happy and I thought my heart was beating out of my chest,” Michael shares of seeing his bride for the first time. Their traditional Catholic mass concluded with the classic “Wedding March.”
The newlyweds and their 378 guests then made their way to a historic landmark completed in 1916 as a masterpiece of Beaux-Arts Classicism. “My parents got married at Union Station, and I had always known I wanted to get married there,” affirms the bride of the sentimental venue. As for the design scheme, “I really wanted the main colors to be lavenders and purples with a mix of pastel pinks,” she shares. “I didn’t have a huge vision for how this would come together, so I really trusted my planner Kristin Butler and florist Bella Flora of Dallas with creating!”
“When the curtain to the room opened for the first time, my jaw hit the floor.”
Upon arrival, guests were greeted with showstopping florals and meaningful details. A striking floral wall of pink and purple hydrangeas, a table filled with wedding photos of the couple’s parents and grandparents, and an escort-card tree covered in fragrant flowers with guests’ names and table numbers suspended from the floral canopy – one of the bride’s favorite design elements – set the tone for the celebration ahead. “I loved how it came to fruition,” Allison smiles.
Inside the main reception space, towering 48-foot ceilings, tall arched windows, and original chandeliers created a sense of grandeur, heightened by layers of pastel blooms and romantic lighting. “When the curtain to the room opened for the first time, my jaw hit the floor,” remembers Michael. His bride agrees: “I had obviously been planning for so long and had an image in my head for what I thought it would be like, and it exceeded every single expectation. It really was like walking into a dream.”
Four canopy structures overflowing with florals and candlelight anchored the space, flanked by banquette seating and rectangular tables topped with lush centerpieces. Square and round tables dressed in lavender linens or left bare to add a modern contrast were incorporated into the design, as well as a long head table that stretched the length of the room, with a floral-border dance floor on one end and the venue’s built-in bar reimagined with fresh flowers on the other. “It was stunning,” says the bride. “With all the pinks and purples, there was nowhere you looked without flowers in sight.”
After a decadent dinner, guests were treated to slices of the seven-tier wedding cake, wrapped in orchids and placed on a rotating display so every angle could be admired. The live band kept the party going, framed by three video-board arches that transitioned from the couple’s wedding pattern to a more playful party atmosphere as the night went on. “It was absolutely perfect,” the bride reflects of their “dream come true” wedding day.
