There’s nothing quite like evoking some old-world charm on your wedding day. Many couples are drawn to vintage motifs for their nuptials based on the elegance of bygones time periods. “We were inspired by the Golden Age – and era of wealth, style, and glamour,” says makeup artist Stacie Ford of this artful New York wedding styled shoot. After selecting a fitting venue to accent their story, they went to work creating the shoot. “The castle, once owned by the Guggenheim family, in all of its opulence, had such rich history that we were immediately drawn to it,” Stacie admits.

The model groom donned a classic, chic tuxedo in black and complemented his attire with a bold red boutonniere – he later changed into a more modern gray suit jacket with a more subdued floral touch. The model bride wore a total of four stunning gowns throughout the day: from a romantic ball gown featuring a full skirt and illusion details on the bodice, to a slinky, form-sitting ensemble with a plunging neckline, and more. Her makeup look featured a bold, deep-purple lip and smoky eyes. She carried a cluster of marsala-hued blooms – reds, purples, and pinks in a wide variety of shades, accompanied by fresh, verdant foliage – and showcased a number of vintage-inspired jewelry pieces, including an emerald ring and dangling crystal earrings.

The color palette for the shoot consisted of many scarlet and plum tones, which could be seen in the bright, Art Deco invitation suite and beyond. “We wanted to modernize the space with rich colors and textures that would easily balance both the scene and our couple, as well as their story,” Stacie notes. The reception tablescape featured a crispy white linen displaying intricate patterns, topped with stacks of gold charger plates, a pink-and-red floral runner, a smattering of candles in an array of heights, and paper goods showcasing precision calligraphy. A contemporary touch was added with octagonal dinner menus in a wine-red color. The concept was tied together with an opulent, five-tier confection, complete with ornate gilt detailing, blush frosting accents, and pink-and-red blooms with greenery in the center. “Our approach was to create a rich, opulent, and classic yet glamorous scene and still make it tangible to the modern bride and groom,” muses Stacie.
