Blair McBride and Corey Norton’s first date began inside an H-E-B grocery store – not exactly the romantic setting either had envisioned, but fitting for a story that would quickly become unmistakably theirs. The two met on Bumble in May of 2022, and when Corey selected what he thought was a bar for their first drink, they soon realized it was located inside the neighborhood market. Instead of calling it off, they laughed, wandered the surrounding streets, found another spot, and talked for more than four hours. At the end of the night, they lingered beside their cars, neither quite ready to say goodbye. Blair remembers hoping for a kiss. Corey, ever the gentleman, waited until the second date.

Corey knew early on that Blair was The One. Not long after meeting her, he told a close friend, “This is it.” A visit to meet her parents in Colorado – their first extended stretch together – sealed it. “There’s nothing like, ‘Hello, nice to meet you. I’m staying here for a week,’” he smiles.

The proposal unfolded in a way that felt perfectly tailored to their playful, competitive dynamic. The couple shares a long-running monthly mini golf match, complete with a traveling “McNorton Trophy.” So, when Corey arranged a game at Omni Barton Creek under the guise of a Father’s Day outing with siblings, Blair didn’t suspect a thing. On the 18th hole – moments after they won, of course – Corey dropped to one knee. In a video of the surprise, Blair can be seen tossing her club in total shock and joy. “It was surprising, joyful, and very us,” she says.

Nine months later, 145 loved ones gathered at Commodore Perry Estate – a place that had quietly held significance long before an engagement ring entered the picture. The couple had celebrated their first dating anniversary there and, half-jokingly, talked about marrying on the property one day.

The ceremony began inside the estate’s chapel, where the natural elegance of the space guided the design. After participating in 16 weddings herself, Blair approached planning with one word in mind: unique. Rather than competing with the architecture and lush surroundings of the venue, the couple leaned into its character, layering green and white florals, including frothy roses, ranunculuses, and lisianthus blooms, for a look that felt refined yet relaxed. A string quartet provided a timeless soundtrack for the ceremony before shifting into contemporary favorites during cocktail hour and dinner, with arrangements spanning from Taylor Swift to Fleetwood Mac.

Choosing to do a first look proved to be one of Blair’s best decisions. “Seeing Corey immediately brought a sense of calm I didn’t even realize I needed,” she shares. Later, walking into the fully transformed chapel together before guests arrived was equally unforgettable for the couple – a quiet pause before the celebration began.

A seated dinner service allowed guests to settle into the romantic gardens and courtyards of the dreamy estate. The reception carried the same effortless aesthetic as the ceremony – thoughtful but never overdone. One of the evening’s most charming personal touches honored the couple’s rescue Lab, Tucker. Though the 85-pound pup skipped the formal festivities, his face appeared on hundreds of custom cocktail cups. It was a playful surprise that delighted guests and ensured he was part of the celebration in spirit.

Music was a priority for both bride and groom. Corey carefully selected their first dance song, Christian Hudson’s “Four Leaf Clover,” and worked closely with the band to curate a setlist that kept the dance floor full. The energy carried late into the evening and ultimately into one of the night’s most spontaneous moments. At the end of the celebration, Blair and Corey jumped fully clothed into the pool of the property. “It was hands down my favorite moment!” Corey admits. For Blair, it was the perfect, joy-filled finale to a day that felt entirely their own.

Reflecting on the celebration, both agree that the day passed in a blur. “Everyone says it goes fast,” Corey says. “They’re right.” If they could change one thing, it would be sneaking into cocktail hour to soak in a few more moments with their favorite people gathered together. But perhaps that fleeting feeling is what made the day so meaningful and undeniably theirs.
