For cake designers, each new wedding cake begins as a blank canvas, so it was only a matter of time before we started to see cakes being painted – literally – like pieces of art! 

The smooth texture of fondant, an edible icing which covers many wedding cakes, makes the material an ideal surface for painting. After covering the cake in white fondant, cake decorators can paint anything from intricate designs to simple trims, using a paintbrush and edible paint. One emerging trend is a white cake with just the top half of each tier painted gold. Another gorgeous look is a floral-inspired design painted on each tier, with each color becoming progressively darker towards the bottom tier to create an ombré pattern
