Brittany Tyrrell and Tyler Britt’s wedding weekend was a joyful blend of sentimentality, southern elegance, and personal touches, all grounded in the couple’s shared love for the Lowcountry. “Tyler and I knew we wanted something sentimental to us,” says Britt when planning their wedding. “My parents have a home in Palmetto Bluff and Tyler has always gone on vacation in South Carolina,” she describes. “We always felt a draw to it, so when it came down to deciding, it was a really easy choice!”

Before they began planning their beautiful nuptials, however, the couple first had to meet. “Our friends tell us nothing could pull us away from each other that first night and that still rings true,” Britt shares of the moment they saw one another during Oktoberfest in Boston. “Another memorable part is that his last name (my new last name) is Britt! When I found out, I immediately told my best friend that I cannot marry him,” she laughs. “Look how that turned out!”

Nearly four years later, Tyler proposed during a summer vacation in Seattle, Washington. “We were visiting for a family vacation, and Tyler and I went on the Ferris wheel on the pier where he popped the question,” remembers the bride. “Our parents and a photographer were waiting at the bottom! I was so shocked and so elated!”

The couple spent the next 14 months planning their October wedding with the support of their wedding planner and the mother of the bride. “Allison [our planner], my mom, and I did most of the heavy lifting with decision making. I always asked Tyler’s opinion for big items, but he mostly wanted me to choose what I liked best,” she describes of their process.

From the start, the bride had a clear vision for her wedding day. “I always had a dream of having a clear tent that showed off the natural beauty of the environment, so that was what most was based upon,” she explains. “I also really like earth tones and light colors, like the blues, pinks, and greens shown throughout the venue,” so those hues were incorporated throughout the day.

“I always had a dream of having a clear tent that showed off the natural beauty of the environment.”

Brittany and Tyler exchanged private vows during their first look, before an alfresco ceremony in front of a gorgeous arch of roses and greenery. When it came time for the vow exchange witnessed by 238 friends and family members, their pastor read aloud statements they’d each written about why they wanted to marry one another. They also made sure to honor their family throughout the nuptials, noting that godparents sat in the front row and their grandparents who had passed were acknowledged by name.

Following the ceremony, loved ones enjoyed an alfresco cocktail hour and found their table assignments on Lucite boxes housing fresh florals before making their way into the clear tent structure. The floral palette of seasonal, local blooms highlighting natural colors continued into the reception design, with the addition of darker blue and purple flowers that wowed and complemented the velvet lounge furniture. “For the head table, we had the illusion of a waterfall florals to the floor!” the bride adds of one of her favorite décor elements.

Guests enjoyed a sit-down dinner service, followed by slices of a custom wedding cake: a four-tier display covered in oyster shells and pearls, with two decadent flavors: bourbon-soaked vanilla sponge cake with shortbread crumble and caramel milk chocolate ganache and dark chocolate sponge with milk chocolate ganache and salted caramel butter cream. For another sweet treat, guests took home bags of local key lime cookies, which the couple personalized with their wedding logo.

Loved ones danced all night to a live band – a major highlight for the newlyweds. “The band was amazing and had everyone dancing the entire night!” Britt says. The biggest surprise of the evening, however, came from Britt’s father. “My dad surprised everyone – including Tyler and me – with a drone show! It showed pictures of our dog, important locations in our life, and our names! It was so amazing,” the bride smiles.

When reflecting on their day, Britt has no regrets. Her advice for other couples? “To stay true to what you want and to not sweat the small stuff. Boundaries are super important in wedding planning, as there are so many options and opinions,” she shares. “I absolutely sweat the small stuff and I felt good with the results, but I tell everyone that it is not needed to have a perfect day.”
