While attending a launch party for the dating app The League, McKay Elliott and Matthew Sternberg didn’t expect to find their perfect match; however, that’s exactly what happened. It wasn’t long before Matt proposed on a boat over the crystal-blue waters surrounding the British Virgin Islands, and the couple soon began planning their wedding in Washington, DC.

With so many detailed decisions to make leading up to the big day, McKay and Matt hired the esteemed planning team at Evoke Design & Creative to organize their dream wedding day. “Jeannette, Stephanie, and Drew from Evoke were the best!” affirms McKay. With a fun, chic vibe selected, the couple sent black-and-white wedding invitations to their guests as they finalized the rest of the stunning celebration.

Friends and family were seated atop Ghost chairs on either side of the aisle lined with billowing baby’s breath, which also wrapped around the modern white chuppah. McKay walked down the aisle to her favorite song by Kygo, meeting her groom beneath a waterfall of vanilla-toned florals. To honor their faiths, a priest and a rabbi presided over the ceremony, which featured both Catholic and Jewish traditions.

“Jeannette, Stephanie, and Drew from Evoke [Design & Creative] were the best!”

The bride was absolutely gorgeous in a beautiful, unique gown featuring large three-dimensional floral appliqués throughout the bodice, sleeves, skirt, and train. “I’ve yet to see another bride wear my dress,” she adds. For a modern twist, she and Matt didn’t select formal bridal parties. “We wanted our friends to wear whatever they wanted and enjoy the party without too much obligation,” McKay shares.

Loved ones discovered their table assignments on a black-and-white seating chart before making their way into the ballroom for the reception. Ghost chairs surrounded sleek rectangular black tables and round varieties strewn with ebony linens, and centerpieces featured white florals accented with greenery, as well baby’s breath to continue the whimsical floral theme. “I still can’t believe the clouds of baby’s breath!” she exclaims.

Following the dinner service, attendees were served slices of a four-tier, raspberry-filled almond wedding cake decorated with three-dimensional sugar flowers inspired by the bride’s gorgeous wedding dress. To keep the celebration going all night long, a late-night DJ set kept everyone dancing in order to achieve the party vibe the couple envisioned for their dream wedding celebration.
