As loved ones stepped into Moira Corcoran and Lauren Johnston’s Jamaican-themed engagement party, they were transported worlds away from Illinois. Known for throwing a great party, the Corcoran family knew this celebration had to be perfect for the brides-to-be. The soirée – planned and styled by Michelle Durpetti Events – featured an island vibe that both Moira and Lauren felt best captured their personalities. “We are a fairly easygoing, laid-back, and casual couple, and we wanted the theme and party to have the same feel,” shares Moira.

Gorgeous greenery filled the room and decorated tablescapes, along with tropical arrangements made to evoke the tiki-chic vibe that the brides envisioned for their “We Be Jammin’”-themed engagement party. Additional pops of color in the form of tropical pink blooms designed by Oliver Dogwood centered each table. To give the space even more of a Jamaica-inspired feel, bamboo-style flatware and banana leaf linens by BBJ Linen graced each table in order to bring the pair's vision to life.

As 55 of Moira and Lauren’s closest family and friends mingled while celebrating the couple's engagement, music from a calypso steel drum filled the space as everyone enjoyed the signature cocktail of the day: a Dark and Stormy, which includes dark rum and ginger beer, and fun Caribbean-inspired fare by Aram Reed. Paper goods, custom details, and towel favors – all by Smitten Boutique – completed the look. “This was sort of the kick off to our wedding journey, and it was special to share it with both sides of our family all together,” affirms Lauren of the joyous day.

From the décor to the food and drink to their guests’ fun attire, the couple loved the unique theme that made their Caribbean-inspired soirée feel much different than a typical engagement party.
