How to Have an Engagement Party Like Mandy Moore

The "This Is Us" star had a fun-filled fête with her close friends.

Though some use an engagement party to bring the families together, particularly if they haven’t met yet, this fête was a light-hearted affair for the girls.

Mandy Moore recently confirmed her engagement to Taylor Goldsmith of the folk-rock band Dawes, whom she has been dating since 2015. She finally showed off her round diamond on a pavé band at the 2017 Emmy Awards, and now it looks like her best gal pals threw her a party this past weekend to celebrate! Though some use an engagement party to bring the families together, particularly if they haven’t met yet, this fête was a light-hearted affair for the girls. Attendees, including Mandy’s This is Us costar Susan Kelechi Watson, Friday Night Lights alum Minka Kelly, and Emily Schuman – the blogger behind "Cupcakes & Cashmere," donned playful plastic princess crowns for the occasion, as seen in the photo the bride posted on her Instagram.

Eagle-eyed fans saw more details, including some delicious fresh fruits, vegetables, and even French fries. Snapshots from Mandy Moore and Minka Kelly’s Instagram stories were screengrabbed and posted to a Mandy Moore fan account, providing more details about the party, including a rousing game of emoji-themed Pictionary.

If you’re feeling the pressure to impress friends with a soirée that is nearly as nice as a lot of weddings, think of Mandy Moore as your inspiration to have something more low key to celebrate your engagement. As it’s not considered a gift-giving occasion the way a bridal shower is, there is no rule that says you cannot throw yourself an engagement party, which means you can celebrate any way you want. Invite people out to your favorite bar, have friends over for dinner and games – the important thing is that it feels right to you and your soon-to-be spouse. Even if someone elects to host a party on your behalf, you should feel comfortable communicating what kind of shindig you would prefer, although be prepared to make some compromises. Your parents, for example, may be less inclined to have a beer pong tournament in their backyard. Corn hole, on the other hand, may be acceptable.
