It may be wedding season, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t excited about engagements! Bachelor Nation alum Wells Adams proposed to his girlfriend Sarah Hyland, star of Modern Family. Fittingly, her longtime character Haley Dunphy tied the knot in a simple at-home ceremony in a recent episode of the long-running sitcom, though we expect Sarah and Wells to have a larger event for their own “I dos.”
Nashville and Los Angeles seem like the top-two contenders for a wedding location – Wells lived in the former city before moving to LA to be with Sarah. However, a destination wedding does not seem to be out of the question, considering the tropical backdrop of the proposal. As for hometowns, both the bride and groom originally hail from perfectly picturesque spots to potentially host their nuptials – Sarah was born and raised in Manhattan while Wells is from Monterey, California.
The bride-to-be shared the exciting news of the engagement by posting several photos of the proposal and the aftermath on her Instagram account. The couple seems to have been on a beach vacation and Sarah is wearing a pink-and-yellow floral dress. Her manicure is a nude-blush hue, allowing the stunning oval diamond engagement ring to stand out.
The photo set was captioned with “That can’t eat, can’t sleep, reach for the stars, over the fence, World Series kind of stuff,” which is a quote from It Takes Two – an Olsen twins movie from 1995 – when the character played by a young Mary-Kate Olsen explains what the standards for marriage should be to Kirstie Alley’s character. Wells had actually used the same quote to caption a post celebrating Sarah’s last birthday.
Unlike the bride, the groom did not post photos of the engagement. Instead, he posted a video that included still images as well as the proposal. His caption read: “I’ll be Johnny, you be June. But forever.” This of course refers to Johnny Cash and his wife June Carter Cash, who were married from 1968 until her death in 2003 (Johnny would pass away only four months later). The soundtrack to the engagement video was “I Like To Be With Me When I’m With You” by Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors. Perhaps this will be the couple’s first dance song?
