What began as a chance match on Hinge between Taylor Paulina Miller and Matthew Blue quickly revealed itself to be something far more serendipitous. “I immediately made the connection, due to Taylor’s last name and hometown, that she was a part of the famous Falmouth Miller family,” he explains.

Matthew had spent years frequenting her family’s beloved Cape Cod restaurant, The Courtyard, belonged to the same golf club, and had even caddied for Taylor’s father, former NHL Boston Bruins hockey player Jay Miller, while growing up. “Needless to say, the connection was instantaneous, and it wasn’t long before we fell madly in love,” Taylor shares.

Matt proposed on the bride’s family’s private beach in North Falmouth, the very same place where he had asked Taylor to be his girlfriend four years earlier. Though she believed she was simply joining his family for annual portraits, the evening unfolded into a perfectly orchestrated surprise proposal followed by a celebration with loved ones waiting back at her family home. “It was the most incredible surprise and truly one of the best days of my life,” smiles the bride.

With help from their wedding planner and the bride’s mother, Paula Miller, the couple spent the next year planning a celebration centered on family, hospitality, and the meaningful coastal setting that shaped so much of their story. “From the moment we got engaged, Taylor knew she wanted to be married in a church and host the reception in her childhood backyard,” Matt explains. Their September wedding weekend beautifully honored both locations.

Following a traditional Catholic ceremony attended by 260 guests, loved ones made their way to the bride’s family home, where an elegant tented reception overlooked the Cape Cod shoreline. While many seaside celebrations lean into nautical motifs, the couple intentionally pursued a more elevated aesthetic.

Soft blush, lavender, ivory, and warm neutral-toned florals filled the space highlighting airy arrangements of roses, hydrangeas, and delphinium blossoms, while candlelit tablescapes featuring glass candelabras added a romantic element beneath the tent.

Guests were welcomed with an abundant cocktail hour highlighting elevated coastal fare, including lobster rolls, caviar-topped potato chips, mini steak frites, Korean beef tacos, and an oyster bar featuring oysters from Taylor’s family oyster company. A refined plated dinner followed, featuring petit filet and diver scallops with chive beurre blanc, alongside thoughtful vegetarian offerings as well.

Throughout the evening, the atmosphere reflected the couple’s vision of effortless sophistication balanced with joyful revelry. “We wanted the evening to feel elegant and timeless but also incredibly fun and relaxed,” Taylor explains. Arriving to the reception by boat added an unforgettable surprise element, while the packed dance floor carried the celebration well into the early morning hours.

One of the evening’s most memorable moments came when Matt joined the band onstage to play drums during “Mr. Brightside” by The Killers. “The song is practically an anthem among Matt’s Boston College friends,” the bride shares of the crowd-favorite performance that instantly energized the room.

Another highlight arrived courtesy of the bride’s parents, who surprised guests by bringing out beloved local performers The Marsels to join the band. “Seeing them walk out and begin singing alongside the band was such an unexpected and joyful moment,” the bride smiles. “It instantly elevated the energy in the room.”

Though every detail was beautifully considered, what made the wedding day truly unforgettable was the deeply personal setting. “Hosting the reception in Taylor’s childhood backyard made the celebration incredibly special,” the groom reflects. “Being surrounded by the place where she grew up, with everyone we love gathered there, made it deeply meaningful.”
