The fall 2016 bridal collections previewed at bridal fashion week this season featured striking sheer elements, dramatic silhouettes, and a few unique design details – most notably, feathers and fringe. Many designer collections featured gowns inspired by a bygone era with 1920s flapper-like fringe and ostrich feather accents showcased in a number of dress styles. The playful details add a dimensional element to wedding dresses, as both feathers and fringe sway in the breeze as you walk down the aisle.
Francesca Miranda showed two bridal gowns with fringe details – "Agata," a long-sleeved lace style with a fringe skirt, and "Luisa," a playful short wedding dress covered with fringe. For brides who love the open-front overskirt trend, worn by brides such as Sofia Vergara, and adore the idea of incorporating feathers, the high-neck gown by Monique Lhuillier will be especially appealing. Naeem Khan, Watters, Vera Wang, and Alon Livné all created styles that featured ostrich feather details in their fall 2016 collections, either with striking shoulder accents, skirt embellishments, or belts.
