5 Wedding Movies You Shouldn't Watch If You're Engaged

Consider saving these flicks for after your nuptials.

Not all wedding movies are created equal – because conflict is the driving force of narrative storytelling, many movies based around someone’s nuptials consist of a lot of problems before (if not during) the trip down the aisle.

When planning a wedding, it’s easy to get swept up in the whole process. Even nights with friends may turn into envelope stuffing and Say Yes to the Dress marathons. Given that there are a plethora of films based around a climatic conclusion of a couple’s nuptials, a girls’ night might have your closest friends suggesting movies about other engagements to highlight your own.

However, not all wedding movies are created equal. Because conflict is the driving force of narrative storytelling, many movies based around someone’s nuptials consist of a lot of problems before (if not during) the trip down the aisle. Even the films that have happy endings can have plot lines along the way that may be troubling to someone currently in the midst of planning their own wedding.

With that said, engaged couples may want to skip these five flicks during their next movie night:

1. My Best Friend's WeddingAre you a young bride? Does your fiancé have a female friend who makes you nervous? This movie won't make you feel any better about either of those things.

2. The Wedding PlannerThere's no reason to sow distrust into your relationship with your wedding coordinator or to give you a reason to not involve your future spouse in the decision-making process.

3. Rachel Getting MarriedThis dark family drama is not going to ease any anxieties about getting your whole family together for a celebration, especially there are any dysfunctional relationships.

4. Corpse BrideAfter all, what’s more romantic than a marriage based on money and status, a groom getting cold feet and accidentally marrying a zombie woman who was deceived into marriage and murdered for her dowry, and then that groom almost dying by suicide in order to be with the dead woman when his betrothed has been promised to someone else? This likely isn't the mindset you want while planning your wedding.

5. Sweet Home Alabama
A big life step can make anyone nostalgic about the past, so there is no reason to have yourself convinced that a first love is the only true love there is.

Find out which movies you should watch at a slumber party with your bridesmaids and watch clips of movie weddings that were interrupted for more pre-wedding fun.
