Deciding on a dinner menu for a wedding can quickly become complicated and intricate with all of the brandy-peppercorn reductions and tarragon-balsamic syrups out there. Take a break from elaborate recipes, and have some fun with food by creating a back-to-the-basics menu for an engagement party, bridal shower, or cocktail hour. Our favorite twists on childhood favorites are sure to please guests of every age. From grilled cheese sandwiches to spaghetti, these treats will satisfy your guests’ cravings and keep them wanting more.

1. Grilled Cheese & Tomato Soup

Serving grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup will offer guests a bit of nostalgia and tantalize their taste buds. Keep the recipe simple with white bread and cheddar cheese, or add avocado, tomato, or bacon. Whatever you choose, these bite-sized delights will be flying off of the trays at your next event. 2. Spaghetti & Meatballs

A big bowl of spaghetti and meatballs is delicious, but it’s also a risky menu item for a sit-down dinner. Savor the taste of this classic entrée with miniature meatball and spaghetti bites. They are mess-free and provide a taste of Italy with each sampling. Peter Callahan Catering. Photograph by Mel Barlow

3. Macaroni & Cheese

Many caterers and chefs are offering petite mac & cheese bites made from the freshest ingredients. Want to appeal to spice lovers? Add some diced jalapeٌno or habanero jack cheese. Feeling fancy? Combine a nice Gruyere cheese along with the typical fontina and cheddar cheeses. Garlic butter breadcrumbs intensify flavor and can be used as a garnish on top or around the base to hold the pasta together. For this photo’s recipe, visit Sarah's Musical Kitchen. 4. BLT

Arguably one of the simplest and most delicious sandwiches, the BLT not only tastes good but can also be artfully arranged on a plate. Add an avocado or basil mayonnaise for a zesty kick if you’re feeling adventurous. Some brides and grooms also choose to brand their new monogram onto the miniature-toasted bread for an additional presentation element. For this photo’s recipe, visit Return to Sunday Supper. 5. French Toast

This breakfast food is not just reserved for the early hours of the day. Serve these easy-to-dip syrup cups and French toast triangles during a wedding shower brunch or even an evening sunset soirée. If the idea of syrup around designer gowns worries you, skip the sticky condiment and create a French toast skewer with blueberries, strawberries, and bananas. Just don’t forget to add the wedding whites by sifting powdered sugar on top of the treats. Bon appétit! Design by Frilly Milly Events. Photograph by Lauren Blair Photography
