Getting the Most Out of Your Father-Daughter Reveal

Much has been written about the “first look” between the bride and groom, but have you ever considered the first time the other man in your life sees you as a bride? A father getting his first glimpse of his daughter in all her bridal finery is a powerfully emotional moment, and with just a little advance planning, your wedding photographer can capture it forever on film.

First, make sure your photographer knows that this shot is essential to you, and when and where he or she should be to make sure the moment isn’t missed. Next, make sure the area where your father-daughter reveal will take place is photo ready – the room or outdoor space should be clear of any unsightly clutter as well as extraneous people, like your makeup artist (close family is fine). Which brings us to our second point – you yourself should be wedding-ready with makeup on, hair styled, and veil in place, so your father gets the full effect and reacts appropriately. Finally, we recommend not telling your dad in advance, so he’ll act natural when the moment arrives. You want the experience to be genuine – not too staged or rehearsed – and your father might be self-conscious if he’s thinking about where he should stand or look for the photo instead of being in the moment.
