A Romantic, Neutral-Hued Wedding in Los Angeles, California

Brittany and Parker

Brittany Irvin headed out to dinner at a beach club with her high-school sweetheart, Parker Champion, innocently assuming it was just a typical Friday night. But as they walked along the beach, it became clear that Parker had a few tricks up his sleeve. They came across a giant heart fashioned out of rose petals and candles, alongside two chairs and Champagne. “I saw it and could not believe what was happening,” Brittany remembers. To top it off, their respective parents and siblings were secretly watching and snapping pictures as Parker popped the question. Naturally, drinks and hors d’oeuvres were on hand as they celebrated for the rest of the night.

As Los Angeles natives, Brittany and Parker desired a local venue that was meaningful and special to both of them. A dramatic Beverly Hills church with high ceilings, stained-glass windows, gorgeous archways, and iron chandeliers complemented the couple’s wish for a wedding that was timeless. To complete Brittany’s vision of a light, summery, neutral palette of white and ivory with touches of pink and green, bunches of flowers in these hues were affixed to the pews. Tall, slender candles also stood at the ends of alternating rows, and a floral garland in shades of eggshell, blush, and chartreuse was draped behind the altar. “The church looked absolutely magnificent!” Brittany exclaims.

Dressed in pale pink, floor-length dresses with spaghetti straps, bridesmaids carried posies of roses in white, champagne, and lavender tones down the aisle to the melodies of the sanctuary organ. Brittany appeared on the arm of her father outfitted in a classically beautiful fit-and-flare gown covered with subtle floral appliqués. Her look was accessorized to perfection with a pearl bracelet, earrings, and a bouquet of creamy peonies. The poignant service, personalized with readings by loved ones, proved to be the most memorable part of the entire day for Parker. “Standing up at the altar with my soon-to-be wife at my side and family and friends in the audience was just so powerful and moving,” he reveals.

Following the vow exchange, the festivities reconvened at a private venue, where guests enjoyed an alfresco cocktail hour on the porch of a sophisticated estate before taking their seats inside a ballroom for the reception. The white, ivory, pink, and green color palette that defined the ceremony carried over to the evening celebration, which Brittany wanted to be “romantic and lots of fun!” Neutral fabric was draped around the entire space, creating a warm and intimate ambience. Overhead, roses dangled from chandeliers wrapped with vines.

Three distinct – but complementary – centerpieces graced tabletops, as Brittany didn’t want the room to look too uniform. Rectangular tables featured glass candelabra that alternated between arrangements of hydrangeas and roses in cylindrical vases, and bunches of roses and orchids in smaller vessels. Another design displayed additional candelabras amongst petite mercury-glass vases filled with single-variety bouquets of calla lilies, roses, or anemones. The third configuration exhibited tall, slender vases brimming with roses in varying neutral shades. Mirrored tabletops, glass chargers, and a single ivory rose resting at each place setting completed the breathtaking scene.

A live band, which performed on a stage bordered by a hedge of cream and blush roses, kept the dance floor full the entire night. After enjoying traditional wedding activities like best man and maid of honor speeches and the bouquet and garter toss, it was time for dessert: a lovely confection topped with fresh pink flowers and frosting that emulated ruffles. Guests departed with additional cake “to-go,” in the form of red velvet and lemon cake pops. Though Parker describes the day as a “grand blur,” Brittany says she was advised to stop periodically and take mental pictures of the celebration, which ultimately was wonderful advice. “Enjoying such a special evening with my husband by my side, the whole night was absolute perfection,” she gushes. “We had the best time!”
